Fox Sports en Español celebratesMexico’s 200th Anniversary of its Independence.

Fox Sports en Español will air over 12 hours of live, exclusive Spanish-language content from 10:30am PT – 10:30pm PT on Wednesday, September 15th to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence.  To celebrate the Mexican Bicentennial, the network will broadcast directly from Mexico, featuring live coverage from events in Mexico City and the US Cities of Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston.

The special programming will feature reports and interviews from the network’s most respected soccer analysts and commentators, including the Tribuna Fox Sports talent and the Diario Fox Sports anchors.  One such presentation will showcase how Mexican athletes celebrate “El Grito” and what it means to them, while another show will include reports from Mexico City and the US to find out what the day represents in both nations.

“This unique programming is the type of content we strive to bring our viewers,” said Vincent Cordero, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Fox Sports en Español.  “We’re thrilled to be able to provide our loyal viewers with exciting news highlighting such an important celebration for Mexican-Americans.”

Fox Sports en Español’s hub in Mexico City will host live satellite links with the network’s reporters from celebration centers throughout the US. Coverage from Mexico will include the actual “Grito” ceremony which culminates with the much-anticipated proclamation by President Felipe Calderon.

In conjunction with the special programming event, the network invites fans to visit the website to participate in an online sweepstakes.  Participants will use puzzle pieces found via clues to construct a virtual map of Mexico, with each piece representing one of the premiere sports competitions covered by the network.  From September 1st-28th, participants are invited to look for clues featured on the network’s programming and online, and to join in the hunt to win a variety of weekly prizes including the grand prize of an all-expense paid trip to the winner’s the sporting event of their dreams*.
