Fox Sports World Español will provide, complete live televised coverage of the 53rd Caribbean World Series started Saturday, February 2, 2002 at 4:30 PM (ET). 2001 champion Dominican Republic and second place winner Puerto Rico open this internationally celebrated baseball championship that also features competing national teams from Venezuela and Mexico. A half-hour pre-game show, hosted by Jose Tolentino and Fernando Gonzalez, offers news, game highlights and analysis throughout the 7-day tournament. Viewers may recognize Gonzalez and Tolentino for their previous stint during last fall’s Major League Baseball postseason carried on Fox Sports World Español.
This year’s high-profile tournament, which originated in 1949 in Havana, Cuba, will take place at the Universitario de Caracas Stadium in Caracas, Venezuela and may present an opportunity for the Venezuelan team to break their 12-year losing streak. The Dominican Republic has captured four Caribbean World Series titles in the last five years.
