Fútbol Estelar back at Telemundo.

Mexican soccer is back on Telemundo this Saturday, July 20, as León and Atlante kick off their respective seasons on “Fútbol Estelar” at 9PM/8CT/5PT. This will be a showdown of contrasts between two squads with different objectives but similar necessities, since Leon believes it has what it takes to win its sixth title but also needs to earn enough points to ensure its stay in the First Division. Meanwhile, Atlante needs to earn as many points as possible to fend off the threat of relegation as well. Andrés Cantor will be narrating all the action live from Nou Camp as Telemundo showcases new technology that enhances the viewing experience and puts the spotlight on the most controversial plays of a match that can also be enjoyed on computers and mobile devices by visiting deportestelemundo.com.

Leon starts the 2013 Apertura looking for redemption after a first semester of 2013 that left them with their pride wounded. Gustavo Matosas’ team finished the 2013 Clausura  as one of the bottom-feeders in 15th  place with 16 points after having surprised everyone in 2012 with 33 points, a third place finish in the regular season and a spot in the semifinals of the playoffs.

Leon took on the challenge to get back in contention by opening its wallet and bolstering its offense with players such as Mauro Boselli, the striker who is considered the league’s most high-profile arrival after spending the past season in Italy. Boselli is a prominent forward who arrives in Mexico having scored 60 goals in 190 career matches, one of them against FC Barcelona in the 2009 Club World Cup Final.

Atlante, on the other hand, starts out in a compromising position near the bottom of the dreaded relegation table after coming in last place in the last tournament. Their biggest addition was Alejandro Vela, a former Cruz Azul midfielder who is also Carlos Vela’s older brother.
