Galavisión 2003-2004 Line-up.
April 19, 2003
Univision Communications Inc. unveiled Galavisión Network’s 2003-2004 lineup during its Upfront presentation at New York’s Lincoln Center. The Galavisión Network is the #1 cable network for Hispanics in the U.S., offering 60-hours-a week of live news shows, live action-packed sports, and live entertainment. Galavisión reaches more than 5.7 million U.S. Hispanic cable subscribers or 90% of all U.S. Hispanic cable homes – more than double its nearest competitor.
“In only one year since the debut of Galavisión’s new programming lineup, the Network has become the cable destination for U.S. Hispanics, with an 80% share of Adults 18-49 watching Galavisión in primetime over all other Spanish-language cable rated networks,” said Ray Rodriguez, President and Chief Operating Officer, Univision Television Networks. “The new lineup of enhanced general-interest programming has helped Galavisión to achieve ratings five times greater than its nearest competitor, Fox Sports en Español, and 21 times NBC’s mun2 among Adults 18-49 in primetime. In addition, Galavisión now outdelivers all English-language cable networks in primetime, for both Hispanic Adults18-49 and the 18-34.”
“As part of our strategic approach to program all three of our networks with the unique understanding of the U.S. Hispanic audience, Galavisión’s 2003-2004 lineup adds alternative formats to its enormously popular sports programming, all of which complements the Univision and TeleFutura Networks’ schedules this season,” said Mario Rodriguez, President of Entertainment, Univision Television Networks. “With the unprecedented success of Galavisión’s expanded programming lineup after only one year, we are even more ideally positioned to offer advertisers the best possible opportunities to directly target the underserved U.S. Hispanic community through all three Univision Networks.”
“Last season’s lineup propelled Galavisión to become the favorite Spanish-language cable channel of the U.S Hispanic population, now the largest minority group in the nation,” said Joanne Lynch, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Galavisión. “During the 2003-2004 season, we will continue to be the live, direct connection to the people, place and events that matter most to Hispanic America. Building on its reputation as the go-to source for news, this season Galavisión will feature news magazine “Los Reporteros,” with in-depth investigative reports, interviews and feature segments. And in addition to our highly successful returning sports programs, including favorite “La Jugada,” Galavision will add two original live sports news programs “Acción” and “Más Deporte” to complement the remainder of our exciting fall lineup.”
New Programs
On Sunday nights, Galavisión will debut “Acción” (“Action”), live sports news coverage that recaps the weekend’s most unforgettable sports images and moments. Also premiering on Galavisión will be “Los Reporteros” (“The Reporters”), a news magazine with in-depth investigative reports, interviews and feature segments hosted by Amador Narcia; “Más Deporte” (“More Sports”), a live interactive sports magazine featuring interviews with and profiles of today’s sports superstars; and “Por La Puerta Grande” (“The Grand Entrance”), an hour of inviting entertainment with popular television personality Maite Delgado.
Returning Favorites
Returning to Galavisión’s lineup are the exclusive first-run variety shows that quickly became favorites among Hispanics of all ages and nationalities over the last year. The popular hosts and celebrity guests of “Hoy” (“Today”), the live morning news magazine, and “Vida TV” (“TV Life”), part game show, part talent contest, part talk show, will continue to entertain their loyal audiences this season. The popular weekday variety show “El Club” will also return this season to deliver the day’s hottest celebrity gossip, games and contests. Viewers will be delighted by the return of some of the most beloved comedies in Spanish-language television, including “Al Derecho y Al Derbez,” hosted by one of Mexico’s funniest comedians Eugenio Derbez, and classics such as “Chespirito,” “El Chapulín Colorado” and “El Chavo.” These shows, along with the well-known favorite “Bienvenidos” (“Welcome”), are guaranteed to keep viewers laughing.
Galavisión’s highly successful news programs will also return for another season, coming off of substantial ratings increases due to coverage of the war in Iraq. Galavisión’s news draws in over 3 million viewers who don’t watch any cable news networks in English. “El Noticiero con Lourdes Ramos” (“News with Lourdes Ramos”), a hard-hitting newsmagazine focusing on today’s most pressing issues and “Noticiero Joaquín López-Dóriga” (“News with Joaquín López-Dóriga”), recognized by loyal viewers as the news information source, return for another year of extensive news coverage. The Galavisión Network’s newscasters provide outstanding investigative journalism, including exclusive information and the most up-to-date information on current events relevant to the Hispanic community.
Sports
The Galavisión Network will continue to offer the best in sports from live action to expert analysis. As proud host of First Division Mexican League Soccer, the Galavisión Network offers more than 100 action-packed regular and championship games throughout the year. In addition to soccer, boxing and championship wrestling round out the exciting sports line-up. “La Jugada,” (“The Sports Play”), “Fútbol Mundial” (“World Soccer”), and “Boxeo en Esta Esquina” (“Boxing in This Corner”) will continue to provide the most comprehensive Spanish-language sports coverage available.
During the 2003-2004 programming season, Galavisión will broadcast more live First Division Mexican League soccer than any other U.S. network, during its primetime and weekend lineup. In addition to “Fútbol Liga Mexicana” (“Mexican League Soccer”), Galavisión will showcase a number of important international tournaments including the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the FIFA Confederations Cup, CONCACAF Gold Cup, and many more. During the most recent quarter, the Galavisión Network captured at least four million viewers who don’t watch ESPN or ESPN2, plus one million viewers who don’t watch sports on any other Spanish-language network.
