Galavisión 25th Anniversary.

Galavisión celebrates its 25th anniversary. Galavisión is the most widely distributed Spanish-language cable network in the United States, available to almost six million Hispanic subscribers and more than 40 million U.S. cable and satellite subscribers. The cable network has tripled its distribution since 1996 when it was first measured by Nielsen, as it now reaches 83 percent of all Hispanic cable households.

To celebrate Galavisión’s pioneering efforts in Spanish-language cable television, hosts, reporters and sportscasters from the three Univision television networks and Univision radio stations have participated in promotional spots saluting and congratulating Galavisión. The spots will appear on Univision, TeleFutura, Galavisión, Univision Radio, and Univision Online.

“In 1979, Galavisión was launched as the first Spanish-language service in the United States in order to bring diversity and quality programming to the growing Hispanic community,” said Joanne Lynch, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Galavisión. “In doing so, Galavisión’s original programming has catapulted the network to the #1 general-interest Spanish-language cable network among Hispanics of all ages. Galavisión is home to the best line-up of interest-driven programs including our live news shows, popular soccer tournaments, classic comedies and variety programs relevant to our dedicated audience.”

While Galavisión’s early programming included mostly movies, miniseries, and specials, Univision management re-launched the network as a cable-exclusive service. Five years later, Galavisión expanded its sports programming and further increased its explosive ratings with the addition of Mexico’s most competitive soccer league, Fútbol Liga Mexicana. In 2002, Galavisión recognized the need and opportunity to offer more culturally relevant programming with the re-launch of its programming format to provide all Spanish-language news, sports, and entertainment to the Hispanic community. Over the years, Galavisión programs and hosts have earned recognition for their success. The prestigious National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has honored the network with 10 Emmy Awards. In 2003, Galavisión took home Emmy Awards for Best Promotion and Best Promotional Spot Campaign (News) of the September 11 Anniversary Tribute.
