December 20, 2004
Univision Communications Inc. announced that during the 2004 fourth quarter, the Galavisión Network delivered its largest total day audience in its history. The Spanish-language cable network posted an increase of 4% among Hispanic Adults 18-49 and experienced notable viewership increases in early fringe, late night, and weekend. Galavisión outdelivered all other 15 measured Spanish-language cable networks combined in total day by 23% and 25% among Hispanic Adults 18-49 and 18-34, respectively. In addition, Galavisión was the #1 cable network in any language among Hispanic Adults 18-34 during primetime.
“By any measure, the fourth quarter of 2004 was outstanding for Galavision,” said Joanne Lynch, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Galavisión. “As we begin the new year, our focus remains on widening the appeal of our existing programming by offering exclusive news and entertainment specials as well as the most popular soccer tournaments to our dedicated audience.”
Galavisión continued to entertain its audiences with the best in soccer programming, as Futbol Liga Mexicana’s (FLM) “Torneo De Apertura” quarter final match on November 24, 2004, delivered the Network’s largest audience ever among Hispanic Adults 18-49. That night, Galavision ranked #2, behind Univision, in all of Spanish-language television among Adults and Men 18-34. Both FLM and Galavision’s soccer tournament FIFA Futsal, delivered more Men 18-49 than any other live soccer property on cable, beating all of Fox Sports en Español’s soccer tournaments.
In the fourth quarter, Galavisión aired over 94 hours of special programming, including a sports tournament, documentary series, various musical specials and the U.S. presidential debates. Galavisión’s live broadcast of the presidential debate on October 8, 2004, was not only the highest rated special of the quarter, but also the highest rated news special in the Network’s history. Additionally, viewership of the annual Acafest Musical Specials, which aired October 5-30, 2004, increased 90% among Adults 18-49 since it debuted on the network in 2001. Galavisión’s El Chavo Marathon on November 13, 2004, was the Network’s highest rated comedy special of the year, achieving a 6% Adult 18-49 viewership increase over last year.
