Getting Hispanic Viewer News Language Preferences Right.

Given recent coverage of U.S. Hispanics and their news preferences, we wanted to make sure you were aware of the following Nielsen data, which shows that U.S. Hispanics actually prefer to watch news programs in Spanish rather than English.

The following data is based on the M-Sun 630-7P Early Network newscasts on Univision, Telemundo, ABC, NBC, and CBS (the 6:30 p.m. news is the only time when both English and Spanish networks have news at the same time making comparisons relevant).

Univision (1,003,000) and Telemundo (327,000) air the #1 and #2 early newscasts respectively among Hispanic adults 18-49 season to date.

* On average 76% of Hispanic adults 18-49 choose to watch their Early
news in Spanish.

* Univision is the #1 Early News network among U.S. Hispanics
outdelivering Telemundo by 207% and averaging more viewers than the three English-language newscasts combined (1,003,000 to 429,000).

* Year to year Univision’s Early Network News has added 73,000 viewers
season to date.

* Overall, Spanish-language Early News telecasts have increased 130,000 plus viewers year to year while the English-language newscasts have lost 27,000 Hispanic viewers.

* Of the English Language newscasts, only NBC has grown year to year (20,000 plus), ABC and CBS are down 39,000 and 8,000 viewers respectively.
