Gitanas @ Telemundo.

Telemundo keeps raising the bar of quality programming in Spanish-language television with the premiere of “Gitanas” (Gypsies), the network’s latest original production and biggest project to-date. The novela, whose stellar cast includes renowned actors Ana de la Reguera, Manolo Cardona, Dolores Heredia, and, for the first time with Telemundo, Saúl Lisazo, premieres Tuesday, July 27 and will be broadcast Monday-Friday at 9pm/8c.

Set in the exotic world of gypsies, “Gitanas” is the story of María Salomé (Ana de la Reguera); a young and beautiful gypsy woman who falls in love with a “gayó” (a non-gypsy man), Sebastián (Manolo Cardona). It was love at first sight but their love, aside from being forbidden by the gypsy code and the discrimination that exists against her flamboyant culture, is marked by a secret past full of hatred and a thirst for vengeance. Sebastián is the son of Rafael Dominguez, the most powerful man in the village, and Salomé is the daughter of a beautiful gypsy woman named Jovanka (Dolores Heredia) who was once humiliated by the Dominguez family.

Jovanka’s hate will be challenged when she meets Rafael’s brother, Juan (Saúl Lisazo), who awakens a passion she thought she would never feel again. However, she will have to fight against these feelings because her love is also forbidden, not only by her culture’s traditions but, by a ‘higher power’.

For the novela’s production, Telemundo and Mexican producer Argos built magnificent sets, recreating an entire city using 20,000 square meters of land located at Mexico’s Xochitla Ecological Park, and currently films on-location in the beautiful port of Topolobampo in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. For the story’s adaptation, scriptwriters have the permanent counseling of several gypsy families who also serve as extras for some of the scenes.

For its U.S. broadcast, “Gitanas” will be closed captioned in English on cc1.
