GLR Networks’ 4th of July: What does Independence Day mean to a Hispanic Community?

In a year accented by immigration rally’s that have raised the awareness of the contribution by the Hispanic population to the culture and the workforce in America, GLR Networks presents a 1 hour radio special report, “4th of July: What does independence mean to a Hispanic community in 2006?” The GLR Special Report will be broadcast by stations from Miami to Los Angeles on the weekend of July 1-4 and hosted by the informative and engaging Max Aub and Ricky Luis.

The Special Report examines the roots of independence to present day beginning with when the original colonies in the American continent established the “New World” and began their fight for independence from Britain. They never imagined, however, that they were planting the seeds of a new democracy which, with time, would become a multicultural quest for freedom. Today, the United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people, who every year on the 4th of July celebrate that freedom. But how has independence impacted the Hispanic community in 2006? How do Hispanics in America feel about this celebration? How does such a Hispanic majority live in America today and how do they celebrate the 4th of July as their own independence day at a time when they have been applauded, yet at the same time been part of an ever-growing national debate?
