‘Go Spurs Go’ Goes Global.
March 12, 2004
Imagine chants of “Go Spurs Go” coming from all over the world including France, Turkey, Slovenia, Argentina and the Caribbean and you have captured the spirit of the 2004 San Antonio Spurs playoff advertising campaign.
With its Championship ring and an international team made up of Tony Parker from France, Hedo Turkoglu from Turkey; Manu Ginobili from Argentina; Rasho Nesterovic from Slovenia and Tim Duncan from the Virgin Islands; fans from San Antonio and throughout the world will be cheering “Go Spurs Go!”
The 2004 San Antonio Spurs playoff advertising campaign titled “Bring on the World” was developed by the Spurs’ agency of record, Creative Civilization – An Aguilar/Girard Agency, to include all broadcast, outdoor and print advertising.
“We are proud of our Spurs and excited about the campaign which captures the international unity and enthusiasm that our team members bring to the 2004 NBA Playoffs,” said Bruce Guthrie, vice president of marketing for the San Antonio Spurs. “Creative Civilization has once again created a great campaign for the Spurs.”
The “Bring on the World” television spots feature a view of space with a rotating earth taking the viewer to the different countries of the Spurs’ international team members with fans chanting “Go Spurs Go.” Visuals include the Eiffel tower, tango dancers and Caribbean beaches, as the music of each region accentuates the spirit and support from afar. The earth then guides the viewer to the SBC Center in San Antonio, Texas where they experience the excitement of a Spurs NBA playoff game, ending with the earth turning into a basketball. Locations featured in the spots are Paris, France; Istanbul, Turkey; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Ljubljana, Slovenia and St. Croix, Virgin Islands.
In addition to the two, 30-second television spots running on all San Antonio networks, a 60-second “Bring on the World” version will be played on the lighthouse in the SBC Center throughout the NBA Playoffs.
“When the agency developed the ‘Go Spurs Go’ campaign in 1999, we had a sense that it would endure, especially after the Spurs won their first championship, but we had no idea that this would become the mantra for all future Playoffs,” said Al Aguilar, Creative Civilization chairman and CEO. “It is because of the talent and success of the Spurs that this chant is being used around the world.”
