GolTV has reached an agreement to be the exclusive broadcast partner for one of Central America’s preeminent tournaments, UNCAF Copa Centroamericana, featuring the region’s top national teams. The 2013 edition of the biannual Copa Centroamericana will be played in Costa Rica, January 18-27 2013, and include the host, Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
Honduras will look to defend its Copa Centroamericana 2011 title, as the top five teams from the tournament advance to the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
UNCAF Copa Centroamericana was the highest rated soccer property in 2011, averaging 28% more viewers than La Liga and more than doubling its audience from the previous year; a feat GolTV expects to repeat in 2013.
“Obtaining broadcast rights to Copa Centroamericana 2013 reinforces GolTV’s position as the number one destination for real soccer fans to watch top teams from across the Americas,” said Rodrigo Lombello, COO of GolTV. “GolTV has placed an emphasis on enhancing its lineup of league and tournaments from the Americas and the addition of Copa Centroamericana 2013 meets this goal, building excitement in advance of the 2014 World Cup.”
“After delivering the most successful Copa Centroamericana in 2011, it is a great pleasure for us to renew with GolTV and have the chance to share the excitement of Central American football with North American audiences,” said UNCAF President, Rafael Tinoco.
