GolTV will kickoff exclusive coverage of the 2009 season of Brazil’s top national club soccer league with the premiere telecast of Fluminense vs. Sao Paulo at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 10. The Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A features Brazil’s top 20 club teams with rosters packed with powerhouse players like Ronaldo, Kleber Pereira and Rogerio Ceni.
“The Campeonato Brasileiro captures the real heart and soul of a nation that produces some of the best soccer players in the world. These talented Brazilian athletes play with such enthusiasm and love for the sport that it keeps fans around the globe on the edge of their seats match after match,” said Constantino Voulgaris, Executive Vice President of Programming and Business Development at GolTV.
Throughout the Serie A season, which runs from May to December, each club team goes head-to-head twice against the other 19 clubs to accumulate points. The club with the most points claims the Serie A title, and the top four clubs advance to the 2010 Copa Libertadores de America, South America’s premier club tournament organized by CONMEBOL. Sao Paolo is the reigning Serie A champion and also holds the league record for number of wins with six title victories.
