Goya Foods to suspends deliveries for May 1st Boycott by Immigrant Rights Activists.

Goya Foods, the country’s largest Hispanic-owned food company, announced that it would suspend deliveries throughout the United States in recognition of the May 1st boycott called on by immigrant rights advocates. The boycott is designed to call attention to the economic importance of undocumented immigrants.

Goya Foods recognizes the many contributions immigrants have made to this country. The company’s founding father, Don Prudencio Unanue was himself, an immigrant when he established the company in 1936 and many of Goya’s consumers as well as the several thousand Goya employees also consist of immigrants and/or multi-generational Hispanic Americans.

“We celebrate the foundation upon which this country was built and support a policy that would sanction those undocumented citizens who have lived, worked and contributed to the economic well-being of our nation.” Says Robert Unanue, president of Secaucus, New Jersey-based Goya Foods.
