Grupo Radio Centro’s ‘Exitos 9 39FM’ in LA.
March 20, 2009
Grupo Radio Centro (GRC) introduced Exitos 9 39FM (KMVN) in the country’s top-rated Southern California Hispanic market.
“We see this as a great opportunity to enter the country’s Number One Hispanic market with a proven formula of hit music that appeals directly to the musical tastes of this young, dynamic market,” said Carlos Aguirre, GRC Chief Executive Officer. “This is the right time and the right place for GRC to become an active player in the important U.S. Spanish radio broadcasting industry.”
The Exitos 9 39FM format includes the favorite hits that Latinos love most from the past 20 years, from Juanes, Luis Miguel, and Pandora to Shakira. Music will be played in extended periods with few interruptions. The station will also broadcast news briefs and local weather and traffic.
Aguirre named two local Spanish broadcasting veterans to key positions at the station: Barrett Alley, who formerly oversaw the company’s Cadena Radio Centro U.S. network, will serve as general manager. Jerry Symon, former general sales manager of KLVE in Los Angeles, will serve as general sales manager.
The station’s marketing team includes Casanova Pendrill of Irvine as advertising agency; VPE Public Relations of South Pasadena for public relations; and Katz Clear Channel for national sales.
The station will initially play extended music blocks and will introduce on-air talent over the next few weeks. The Exitos 9 39FM signal reaches the greater six-county Southern California region, home to the country’s largest Latino population with an estimated 6.7 million people comprising more than 40 per cent of the local population.
