Azteca America today announced that Luis Hernández has joined the network as General Manager of KVDF in San Antonio and KADF in Austin. The announcement marks a return to Azteca for Hernández, who previously was Vice President and GM for KAZD in Dallas from 2010-2013. Hernández will report to Enrique Perez, Executive Vice President, Station Group, Azteca America.

“We are thrilled to welcome Luis back to Azteca,” said Perez. “Luis has tremendously strong experience managing stations in various stages of maturity, and he is a natural fit in this role. Luis’ experience and relationships in the San Antonio market, as well as his ability to lead a team and drive growth, are valued qualities as we continue to bolster Azteca’s station group throughout the U.S.”

Hernández joins Azteca from Telemundo, where he served as President and GM of the network’s San Antonio affiliate, KVDA, since 2013. During his tenure, he led the station to impressive sales growth from 2013-2015. Hernández was responsible for reorganizing the station’s news, sales, promotions and marketing departments to elevate the station’s visibility in the market.

As GM of Azteca’s KAZD in Dallas, Hernández was responsible for the full power station launch of the affiliate as well as the launch of the station’s news programming. He developed the sales strategy and approach and led the station to achieve its revenue goals.

Previously, Hernández served as a General Sales Manager for Univision’s stations in the Dallas market, KUVN and KSTR, from 2003-2010. In this role, he planned, managed and executed the network’s sales initiatives in the market and led significant growth of the stations’ revenue and market share.

Hernández served in various sales roles with Univision station affiliates from 1995-2003 and began his career as a Local Sales Manager for Telemundo’s KVDA from 1988-1994.
