High-Speed Households in 2002.

The FCC reports that there were 14 million residence and small business broadband lines in the US as of June 2002, rising by roughly 3 million from the end of 2001. eMarketer’s estimate of 16.8 million broadband households this year is right in line with the FCC findings.

The latest report from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regarding broadband connectivity indicates that there were 16.2 million residential and business high-speed lines at the end of the first half of this year. This total, according to the FCC, represents a 27% rise from the second half of 2001, when there were 12.8 million homes and businesses making high-speed connections.

The FCC finds that of the 16.2 million broadband lines, roughly 14 million were residential and small business connections — a total that rose by 27% from 11 million in the second half of 2001.
