Hispanic Students Benefit From Mana Concert Tour Scholarships.
April 22, 2003
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) will award scholarships to 125 college students for the 2003-2004 academic year. HACU partnered with Coors Brewing Company and rock-en-espanol group Mana to support students through the Coors Light Academic Success in Education (CLASE) awards.
“We applaud the commitment of Coors to diversity and to higher education of our future leaders in the Hispanic community,” said HACU president and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “The CLASE scholarship fund will continue to make a significant impact for our next generation of leaders on campus and in our communities for the 21st century.”
In 2002, Coors Light teamed up with Mana to provide college scholarship funds derived from a portion of the proceeds from their 13-city U.S. concert tour. The CLASE scholarships will be administered by HACU and applications have been sent to the Financial Aid directors and other contacts at more than 300 HACU-member colleges and universities.
“We’re excited about this opportunity to give back to Hispanic communities at home and abroad,” said Olga Garcia, corporate relations manager, Coors Brewing Company. “The CLASE scholarship program is yet another way for Coors to help Hispanic leaders of tomorrow achieve academic success today and give back to a community that supports Coors. By engaging our business and community partners, we are able to make a significant and positive difference in our communities.”
To qualify for a $1,000 CLASE scholarship, students must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students with any major in the U.S., Puerto Rico or Mexico. Students in the U.S. or Puerto Rico may use the scholarship to take for-credit courses at their home institution or to study abroad at a HACU-member institution in Mexico. Students in Mexico can only use the scholarship to take for-credit courses at a U.S. HACU-member institution. HACU’s general scholarship application, which includes the CLASE program, is available in PDF format under the “Student Resources” section of HACU’s web site at http://www.hacu.net. A Spanish version of the CLASE application for students attending HACU-member institutions in Mexico is also available on HACU’s web site.
HACU represents over 300 member and partner colleges and universities in the U.S. and Puerto Rico that collectively serve three out of every four of the nation’s 1.6 million Hispanic higher education student. HACU also has over 30 International Members in Latin America and Spain. Only students attending HACU member institutions are eligible to apply for and receive scholarships administered by HACU.
