Hispanic Television Network Cable Distribution Across Los Angeles.
May 19, 2001
Hispanic Television Network announced this morning it will begin airing its programming 24 hours a day through cable distribution across Los Angeles.
In January 2000 HTVN began airing on KJLA in Los Angeles, however HTVN was unable to secure prime-time distribution hours with the affiliate. HTVN has recently experienced growing demand for its programming by cable companies across the nation. The company will announce specific Los Angeles cable launch dates in the near future that are an offshoot of its expanding cable agreements with companies including AOL Time Warner, AT&T and others.
“KJLA was a great launch strategy for us in LA because it provided over the air distribution when we premiered our network in January of this year,” said HTVN COO Michael Fletcher. “It also served to introduce our programming to cable companies. Since that time HTVN has secured long-term revenue producing cable agreements with the nation’s top cable distributors and will soon announce new launch dates.”
“HTVN recently stopped broadcasting on KJLA and although they were a great partner, the agreement in place did not allow for the programming to air during the much needed prime-time programming segment. We are pleased with the growth in cable demand and look forward to broader reach in the LA market,” said Bryan O’Hara, HTVN’s Director of Cable Relations.
“We are very pleased that our long-term cable agreements that include the LA market are 24 hours a day that in addition to advertising revenue will deliver cable subscriber fees,” said HTVN Chairman Jim Ryffel. “Los Angeles is the largest Hispanic market in the United States. The drop of KJLA will result in substantial savings to the company in affiliate fees. HTVN will maintain its Los Angeles sales office and focus on network and national spot sales as it reviews its over the air broadcast strategy.”
