Hoy 2nd Largest Spanish-Language Newspaper.

Hoy is now the nation’s second largest Spanish-language paper following a 21 percent jump in daily circulation and a 25 percent surge in Sunday circulation, according to the March 2003 Publisher’s Statement as filed with the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), subject to audit.

Hoy overtook the Miami-based El Nuevo Herald with the release of the latest circulation figures for the six-month period ended March 31, 2003. Daily circulation at Hoy rose more than 16,000 to 91,156, while Sunday circulation was up 6,320 to 31,782.

“Everyone at Hoy is thrilled with our rapid growth and our new place as the second largest Spanish-language newspaper in the country,” said Louis Sito, Publisher, President and CEO of Hoy and Vice President/Hispanic Media for Tribune Co. “We thank our readers for making us an important part of their daily lives, our staff for all their hard work and dedication, and all of our advertisers and business partners who have helped us to grow and serve our readers.”

Over the past six months, Hoy took 20 awards for writing and design in the 15th Annual National Association of Hispanic Publications Print Awards, including 10 first-place awards. Hoy also began producing TV news and feature segments in its Manhattan newsroom for Telemundo 47/WNJU, the New York area’s fastest-growing television station (Nielsen NSI), for use by Telemundo 47’s Noticiero 47.
