HPRA-LA announces recipients of 2018 ‘Voices Of Courage’ Premio Awards & Scholarship Night

Set under the stars on a rooftop in downtown Los Angeles, the Hispanic Public Relations Association, Los Angeles Chapter (HPRA-LA) will be awarding next week scholarships and recognizing a national organization, an actress from Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, and a Pulitzer prize-winning Hispanic journalist, all who are using their platforms to educate and uplift the Latino community.

Recipients of the new “Voices of Courage PRemio Awards” include the NALEO Educational Fund, actress Jackie Cruz, and Los Angeles Times Staff Writer Esmeralda Bermudez.

Hosted by Univision Radio Personality Donaji, the L.A. GRAN Mixer: PRemio Awards & Scholarship Night is expected to bring out more than 150 public relations, marketing and media professionals and influencers.

“On this special night, HPRA-LA will proudly celebrate those individuals and organizations who are advocating on behalf of the Latino community, whether it be for immigration rights, LGBTQ rights, bilingualism or naturalization,” said HPRA-LA President Stephen Chavez, CEO of ChavezPR and founder of LatinoFoodie. “We thank our generous sponsors for helping us raise scholarship monies to open doors and nurture future Latinos in the Communication field.”

This year’s scholarship recipients include:

  • Arturo Gomez Molina, University of La Verne
  • Eve Moreno-Luz, University of California, San Diego
  • Irma Guardado, University of San Francisco

The rooftop will be buzzing with a live musical performance from Latin alternative group MITRE, DJ AO, and culinary tastings from top local and celebrity chefs, such as Chopped Champion Chef Katsuji Tanabe from NIXON Whisky & Chops Restaurant in Whittier, Chef Natalie Curie from El Coraloense Restaurant in Bell Gardens, Chefs Hugo Molina and Aricia Alvarado from Genovese’s Italian Restaurant and Alchemy Kitchen, Casa Rubio Catering, and Chef Turok from Mascarpone Cheesecake.
