Ibra Morales – President Telemundo TV Group.
June 22, 2002
Ibra Morales has been named President, Telemundo Television Stations. The announcement was made by Jim McNamara, President and Chief Executive Officer, Telemundo Communications Group, Inc., and Jay Ireland, President, NBC Television Stations Division. In this position, Morales will report to both executives. Morales comes to Telemundo from Eagle Television Sales where he served as President.
“We are thrilled to have Ibra join the Telemundo leadership team, and the timing couldn’t be better given our current phase of growth. His passion, vision and demonstrated track record of success make him ideally suited to drive our stations to the next level,” said McNamara.
During his three years as President of Eagle Television Sales, a subsidiary of Katz Media/Clear Channel Group, Morales helped build the company by creating a new organization to manage sales for Hearst-Argyle Television, and other major broadcasters including Scripps Howard, New York Times, Allbritton Communications, Fisher Broadcasting, and Landmark Communications. Morales recruited, hired, and provided executive and sales leadership for 17 offices. Under Morales’ leadership, the company billing for the first year was 7 percent over target.
“Ibra’s managerial expertise, business acumen and operating background will enable him to succeed in his leadership role for the Telemundo Stations. We are lucky to have him on our team,” said Ireland.
Morales also served as Senior Vice President of Sales for Hearst-Argyle Television during the merger of Hearst Broadcasting and Argyle Television. In this role, he was integral in merging the two cultures, maximizing revenues and transitioning the newly formed organization into a new broadcast company, resulting in increased sales performance.
Before the Hearst-Argyle merger, Morales was Executive Vice President of Sales and the Corporate Officer for Argyle Television. As EVP Sales, Morales helped identify and purchase stations, acquire FCC broadcasting licenses, and secure television network contracts. In 1993 he also served as General Manager/Director of Sales for WVTM-TV in Birmingham.
Morales began his career in 1972 at SFM Media Services as a media buyer. He moved to Katz Media in 1978 where he held a number of positions including General Sales Manager and Director of Sales.
