INTE Awards 2003 – Major TV Networks Present Nominees.

With only two weeks remaining before the nominations deadline for the INTE AWARDS 2003 (Spanish Television Industry), important broadcast TV networks in Latin America, such as TV Globo (Brazil), TV Azteca (Mexico), Caracol (Colombia), Telefe (Argentina), Telemundo (USA) and Venevision and RCTV (Venezuela), have already presented their nominees for the second edition of the highest acclaim in Spanish TV. The Gala for the second INTE AWARDS ceremony will be held June 12 at the
Coconut Grove Convention Center in Miami.
The Nominees Include:
Among the soap operas competing for the category “Soap Opera of the Year” are:
“Luzbel esta de visita” (Colombia), distributed globally by Tepuy International. Aurelio Valcarcel directed this co-production by Caracol TV, RTI Television and Telemundo, with screenplays by Julio Jimenez, and starring Walter Diaz, Monica Mendoza, Daniel Ochoa, Margarita Ortega, Lino Martone and Oscar Corvella. “El Clon” (Brazil), presented by TV Globo. Written by Gloria Perez, directed by Jayme Monjardim, and starring Giovanna Antonelli and Murilo Benicio. “Kachorra” (Argentina), presented by Telefe Argentina. This daily-filmed success stars Natalia Oreiro and Pablo Rago, and is a candidate for Spanish-language soap opera of the year.
In the category of this year’s Latin “Reality Format”:
“Gran Hermano III” (Argentina), nominated by Telefe Argentina. An original Endemol format whose closing, on Sunday, February 16, 2003, garnered a 29.2 average rating with 34.3 point spikes. “La academia: Camino a la fama” (Mexico). Presented by TV Azteca, this program has developed great popularity in Mexico, gaining Sunday ratings strong enough to outdo the “Operacion Triunfo” format, also produced for this market by Endemol and Televisa.
Nominated for “Female Lead”:
Celeste Cid, the 19-year-old Argentine actress, nominated by Telefe for her role in the soap opera “Franco Buenaventura, el profe”. Alongside Osvaldo Laport, Cid portrayed a controversial role that allowed the program to become one of the most viewed in its market in 2002.
For the Category “Best Supporting Actor and Actress”:
Colombian actress Catherine Siachoque, nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Telemundo soap opera “La Venganza”, by the Gabriel Blanco Representaciones Artisticas firm. She has participated in numerous important soap operas including “Las Juanas”, “La guerra de las Rosas”, and “Amantes del Desierto”.
The same firm presented Javier Gomez as nominee for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the soap opera “Vale Todo”, co-produced by TV Globo and Telemundo for the U.S. market. Gomez, originally from Argentina, is currently hosting the reality show “El Conquistador del Fin del Mundo” on Telemundo (in Promofilm format). He has starred in soap operas such as “Pedro el Escamoso” (Caracol), “Maria la del Barrio” (Televisa), “Reina de Corazones” (Radio Caracas Television), and “Golpe Bajo” (TV Azteca), among others.
Nominated for Paid TV Channel of the Year in the categories: Sports –Variety — International Channel:
AXN, simultaneously a candidate for the categories: Paid TV Channel of the Year for Sports; Paid TV Channel of the Year for Variety and Paid International TV Channel of the Year for the INTE AWARDS. AXN specializes in action, science fiction, and extreme sports series. Columbia TriStar International Television launched the network on August 1, 1999.
Best Show:
“Los Simuladores” (Argentina), nominated by Telefe. This successful series, written and directed by Damian Szifron, will enter its second season in 2003. The show stars Federico D’Elia, Martin Seefeld, Alejandro Fiore and Diego Peretti and became one of the greatest successes in that country in the 2002 season.
Programmer of the Year:
Enrique Quintero-Marmol has already been nominated (Canal Once de Mexico). With an 18-year track record as producer, his accomplishments include pioneering the introduction of films for the hearing and visually impaired, concert videography, programming addressing sexuality issues, and the development of youth-oriented subject matter.

The first INTE AWARDS Gala was held on May 30, 2002, at the Coconut Grove Convention Center in Miami, where 59 honorees received awards from a total of 550 nominees for top programming, talent, companies and individuals in the Spanish television industry. The gala brought together more than 600 top executives, actors and actresses from Latin America, Spain, the U.S. Hispanic community, and offered an unprecedented red carpet arrival never before seen in Miami.
The jury of the INTE AWARDS 2003 is comprised of a group of leading television broadcasters representing all countries in this market.
