October 19, 2002
Univision broadcasted ‘Juan Gabriel Para America’ (Juan Gabriel for America), a two-hour concert by the eponymous Mexican singer-songwriter, on Sunday, November 17 from 7 pm to 9 pm ET/PT (6 pm to 8 pm Central/Mountain Time). The concert, which celebrated Juan Gabriel’s 30th anniversary in entertainment, was recorded at the Festival Viña del Mar, one of the most important music festivals in the Spanish speaking world held every year at the resort city of Viña del Mar, Chile. There, Gabriel performed many of his greatest hits.
With a career spanning three decades, Mexico’s “favorite son” has sold more than 30 million records. His performances in the USA have sold more tickets than any other Latin American artist. In addition, more than 200 artists have recorded his songs. Earlier this year, Juan Gabriel unveiled his “star” on Hollywood Boulevard.
