June 20, 2009
Univision Communications Inc. announced that U.S. District Judge Philip S. Gutierrez in Los Angeles Federal Court has ruled in Univision’s favor in the Internet rights litigation with Grupo Televisa, S.A.B. Judge Gutierrez’ ruling prohibits Televisa from broadcasting over the Internet in the United States programs it has licensed to Univision under the Program License Agreement. Univision is exploring its legal options in order to provide this content to its audience over the Internet in the U.S. in the future.
“We are very pleased with today’s ruling,” commented Joe Uva, chief executive officer of Univision Communications Inc. “As the home of the country’s leading Spanish-language media assets, including the #1 Spanish-language Internet destination, Univision will continue to provide its audience with the world’s best Spanish-language programming.”
Univision was advised and represented in this matter by Keker & Van Nest.
