October 20, 2001
Kmart’s famous “BlueLights” are back for the holiday shopping season, bringing a sleigh full of value to shoppers everywhere. Kmart Corporation (NYSE: KM) today revealed its holiday advertising campaign, highlighted by a substantial flight of broadcast commercials focused on value, top brands and convenience.
The 15- and 30-second television commercials, which began airing November 11, feature Kmart’s popular “BlueLight” characters. The computer- animated spotlights, which represent the company’s everyday value pricing model, can be seen scurrying throughout the store highlighting low prices on a wide selection of holiday gift and home decorating products. Dancing to updated holiday classics, such as “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” and “Good King Wenceslas,” the “BlueLights” move from the toy department, to the jewelry counter, to electronics, shining their spotlights on all the best brands and products consumers want, at the prices they need.
“This holiday season, Kmart is focused on what matters most to American consumers,” said Steve Feuling, senior vice president of marketing for Kmart. “In this economic climate, consumers are seeking value. They know that when they see Kmart’s ‘BlueLights,’ they have found the best prices on the products they truly want.”
In addition to its holiday advertising campaign, Kmart is also driving store traffic and sales through a series of in-store promotions with top-tier partners. The company teamed with Warner Brothers to support the launch of the much-anticipated movie, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” For the home DVD and video release of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” and “Shrek,” Kmart developed extensive chain-wide events with Universal Studios and DreamWorks, respectively. Finally, for the theatrical release of Disney/Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.,” Kmart, Pepsi and Frito-Lay worked together to help build demand for the film and licensed products.
