KMEX-TV 2002 World Cup Ratings Doubles KABC-TV.

Univision’s KMEX-TV in Los Angeles scored a huge audience for its live broadcast of the Final Match of the 2002 World Cup between Brazil and Germany on Sunday morning, June 30th. Despite its early morning broadcast, the match posted a 5.8 NSI household rating/30 share between 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. — more than double the numbers for the “head-to-head” live broadcast on local ABC Network affiliate, KABC-TV. This is according to Nielsen Media Research’s NSI Los Angeles overnight ratings for June 30th, 2002.

The average number of households in Los Angeles viewing KMEX-TV’s coverage of the match (308,000 average homes) was over twice that of KABC-TV:

For its complete broadcast of the event (including pre-match and post-match coverage) KMEX-TV averaged a 4.6 NSI household rating/25 share between 3:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. By comparison, KABC-TV averaged a 2.6/14 share between 3:30 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., including its pre-match coverage.

Based on Nielsen’s NHSI Hispanic ratings service, KMEX-TV averaged 434,000 Hispanic viewers (Persons 2+) for the Final Match, with an average 17.8 Hispanic household rating/71 share between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
