KWEX Univision 41 celebrates Halfway Mark of the ‘Únase al Reto’ Community Walk.

KWEX Univision 41 will be celebrating its Halfway Mark of the “Únase al Reto” Community Walk on Wednesday, July 18, 2012. It marks the third consecutive year that KWEX Univision 41 embarks on this 40 plus week health and fitness initiative which began in March and concludes in October. Station talent and news anchors join viewers each week at Woodlawn Park in an effort to become fit and stay active. Due to the stations continual investment in the San Antonio community, Univision 41 was recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with a Lone Star Emmy for “Excellence in Community Service” in 2011.

Due to the high rate of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and obesity among the Hispanic community in San Antonio, the station challenged viewers to lead a healthier lifestyle by incorporating weekly walks with Univision’s on-air talent in 2010. In partnership with the San Antonio Mayor’s Fitness Council, Univision expanded the program to offer information from local health experts and additional exercise options that following year. The 2012 program will continue to educate and empower San Antonio on its journey to a healthier lifestyle.

KWEX Univision 41’s “Unase al Reto” will take place on Wednesday, July 18 at Woodlawn Park in San Antonio. The event starts at 5:00 p.m., where “Noticias 41” (News 41) will be broadcasting live onsite. Local artists will be signing autographs for attendees coupled with free giveaways and prizes. Completing the evening will be a concert by local bands with live music from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Local health experts will provide free health screenings for blood pressure and diabetes. Exercise options will include Yoga, Zumba® and other high impact aerobics.
