La Comunidad & Badillo Puerto Rico Dominate @ AHAA/Ad Age Creative Awards.

Entries rose by 30% to 715 for the 7th annual Advertising Age Hispanic Creative Advertising Awards, presented in cooperation with the Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies at a gala awards show Sept. 30 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York.

The entries from Puerto Rico agencies received a large amount of attention and honors at this year’s competition, thus demonstrating the high level of creative prowess on the island.

Two Best of Shows were awarded. La Comunidad, Miami, won Best of Show (Broadcast) for the spot “Parents Day for VH1. In the first Best of Show (non-Broadcast) ever awarded, JWT Puerto Rico, San Juan was awarded for “Wash Me” for Delivery Car Wash, a simple non traditional media/guerrilla marketing campaign that involved sponging unwashed cars on the street with a stencil advertising the car wash service.

For the first time, an Advertiser of the Year award was given, to the Toyota brand. In this year’s awards, Toyota won one gold, three Silver and six Bronze awards. The winning work was created by three different agencies, in the U.S. Hispanic market and Puerto Rico, and reflects a brand that is consistently creative, relevant and takes risks.

The Advertising Age Hispanic Creative Awards celebrate the best creative work in the U.S. Hispanic market, including Puerto Rico, in television, print, radio, magazine, newspaper, out-of-home, non-traditional media/guerrilla marketing and interactive. This year no award was given in the direct marketing category.

This year’s jury was head by Luis Miguel Messianu, chief creative officer of del Rivero Messianu DDB. The other top creative directors on the jury were Laurence Klinger; senior VP-executive creative director, Lapiz; Elias Weinstock, VP-senior creative director, Casanova Pendrill, and Catarino Lopez, chief creative officer, Bromley Communications. Senior marketers on the jury included Mario Davila, president of Toyota Puerto Rico, Mauricio Troncoso, Procter & Gamble Co.s’ marketing director-U.S. Hispanic markets, Manny Gonzalez, brand director-deluxe scotch, Diageo North America, and Liz Perez Angeles, associate director-Hispanic Marketing, Kraft Foods. Other judges were Chiqui Cartagena, managing director-multicultural communications, Meredith Integrated Marketing, and Laurel Wentz, Advertising Age’s international and multicultural editor.
