September 18, 2004
Two Mexican icons have joined forces as part of a major push to elevate Mexican food to its highest standards. In the midst of New York’s “Mexican Restaurant Tour”, La Costeña brand and Pampano’s chef Santacruz have announced that they will partner to create and promote dishes representative of the latest wave of fine Mexican cuisine, making them available to a broader base of food fans. This will be the first push by La Costeña in a series of important events geared towards making superb Mexican cooking a part of everyday life in the U.S.
Santacruz’s delectable new creations featuring La Costeña will be part of a $30 dollar prix fixe dinner menu to be offered during the Mexican Restaurant Tour in New York City. In addition, patrons will receive a complimentary “botana” and the recipes for four dishes, making the culinary secrets of this top Mexican chef accessible for at home preparation. Pampano is one of the staples of this culinary event, which will take place on October 18-29 in over 30 top Mexican eateries in the city.
“In Pampano I’ve worked to take Mexican cooking to a more creative level, and now I’m excited to be able to introduce my creations to more people”, said Josefina Santacruz, chef at Pampano in New York. “I grew up with La Costeña products in my home’s kitchen, so crafting a menu using their rich and authentic line of products has been an exciting project”.
Chef Santacruz arrived in New York in 2003 after a lengthy career in top restaurants in Mexico City. Pampano, owned by Executive Chef Richard Sandoval and Placido Domingo, has become the highest-rated Mexican restaurant in New York behind a menu focused on foods from Mexico’s coasts. Its success has come from combining Mexican ingredients with European techniques.
“We serve a market devoted to their families and to home cooking. By asking the best Mexican chefs in the U.S. to create recipes with La Costeña and sharing them broadly, we intend to divulge cooking secrets that will empower our core users and bring a great culinary experience to many homes in the country” said Johanna Lugo, Marketing Manager of La Costeña.
The brand has embarked in a year-long program to partner with the most important Mexican restaurants in order to merge the highest standards of Mexican cooking with the everyday needs of its consumers. La Costeña is a major producer of top-quality Mexican foods and the largest seller of jalapeno peppers in the world. With more than 80 years in the market, this Mexican company has a mission of bringing high-quality foods that preserve the flavor of traditional cuisine.
