La Opinión Announces Changes To Executive Team.

Jose Ignacio Lozano, Publisher and CEO, has announced that J. Gerardo Lopez has been promoted to the post of Executive Editor. He previously served as Editor of the newspaper, a role Lopez has held since 1995. In his new position, he will be responsible for the day-to-day news planning and content development of the daily. As the Editor of La Opinión, Lopez and his staff have been the recipients of numerous writing and design excellence awards. Most recently, the New California Media honored La Opinión for best Commentary/Editorial Writing and best Photo Essay.

Bob Karcher, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Karcher joined the paper in 2000 as Circulation Director. Under his leadership, La Opinión’s circulation has posted an average growth of 7% over a 3-year period. He takes over a title formerly held by company President, Monica Lozano, who will now concentrate her focus on marketing, advertising and editorial strategizing for the media organization.

Another key change in the company is the creation of the position of Chief Technology Officer. Bill Mumaw, current Director of Operations, has been named to fill the new post. Mumaw has been with La Opinión for over 20 years, having started in 1978. His principal role has been in the pre-press and production end of the newspaper. In 1994, he was instrumental in the implementation of the first electronic pre-press system at La Opinión.

“These changes have been in the works for the past year and are consistent with our growth objectives and strategies,” states Lozano. “This restructuring allows us to realign our talents and abilities with our resources while creating a structure that consolidates and centralizes our operations. We’ve taken these organizational steps to continue to meet our short and long term goals to our readers, marketing partners, staff members and La Opinión.”
