La Opinión Launches Syndication Service.

Satisfying the growing appetite for news and information relevant to Hispanics in the U.S and in Latin America, La Opinión has started syndicating proprietary content.

La Opinión will produce weekly, topic-specific packages containing the most newsworthy content for both the domestic and international subscribers. These include an entertainment package, sports package and a business and technology package. Daily feeds of news highlights and images relevant to other U.S. markets and abroad will also be available. Other market-specific opportunities include features, such as ad hoc, “one shot” interviews with high profile figureheads or personalities, as well as regional packages for Central America or Mexico.

“La Opinión’s daily production of editorial content, both text and photos, will create a wide array of specially tailored packages to fit the needs of all potential customers.” Said Hugo Enciso, La Opinión’s Business Development Manager. “In Latin America for example, there is a high demand for features, news and photos on topics of global appeal with a Latino perspective not readily available through other sources, ranging from entertainment to technology.”

La Opinión will partner with Tribune’s Los Angeles Times Syndicate International (LATSI) and Newscom to distribute the newspaper’s content. “Our syndication partners will manage all sales, marketing and distribution, allowing us to focus on our core competency, the creation and packaging of unique content,” added Enciso.

The increased awareness and recognition of the growing Latino population during the 1990s created an unprecedented growth in the number of U.S. Latino media outlets. In 1990, there were 355 Hispanic Newspapers and 177 magazines. Today there are 540 newspapers and 346 magazines targeting Latinos, a growth of 67percent.

La Opinión’s research validated the potential demand for syndicated topic-specific content, both domestically and abroad. This is true especially for content of the newspaper’s most successful sections, including “Negocios” (business), “Golazo” (soccer), “Espectaculos” and “La Vibra” (entertainment) and “Deportes” (sports), among others.

Additionally, La Opinión will offer “one-shot” editorial pieces for special events or opportunities. “The Academy Awards is the example of an event that garners worldwide editorial attention and La Opinión has prime access due to proximity, contacts in the industry and experienced coverage.” commented Enciso.
