February 17, 2003
La Opinión has been honored for the third consecutive year by the Society for News Design (SND). La Opinión continues to add to its long list of awards and recognition over its 77-year history.
The SND awards are bestowed for excellence in newspaper design, graphics and photography. La Opinión was recognized in three categories for publications with circulation between 50,000 to 174,999. The newspaper won Awards of Excellence for Best News Design/News Pages for the feature, “Death at the Border”, Best News Design/Sports Pages for “On the Spotlight” and Best Feature Design/Entertainment Pages for “Chaos”.
“Our daily goal has always been to bring our readers the best written and most informative content possible,” said J. Gerardo López, Executive Editor of La Opinión. “We also understand that when great content and design work in tandem, it provides readers with a richer sense of the news. These awards not only complement the many other honors that we have received over the years but also acknowledge the overall strength of the newspaper.”
SND was founded in 1979 and currently has over 2,500 members in more than 50 countries who are dedicated to improving news presentation and design in all media. This year’s winners were chosen from a field of 351 entries representing 37 countries.
