La Romantica 104.9 FM Launches In SF/SJ Markets.
December 4, 2005
Clear Channel Radio launches La Romantica 104.9 (KCNL-FM) Spanish Contemporary format serving Hispanic Adults 25-54 in the San Francisco/San Jose market. Clear Channel Radio Northern California Regional Vice President Kim Bryant announced the launch effective January 1, 2006.
La Romantica’s format will play music that consists primarily of Boleros-Love Songs, and Pop hits from major Spanish Contemporary artists. Due to the wide musical format spectrum this covers, this genre will often experience a significant crossover from other forms of Latino music from artists such as: Alejandro Fernandez, Luis Miguel, Sin Bandera, Thalia, Shakira, Alejandro Sanz, Ricardo Arjona, Juanes, Juan Gabriel, Chayanne and more.
“The demographics of the Bay Area listener, especially in the South Bay have changed dramatically in the past few years, and the Hispanic audience has grown exponentially. The need, demand and opportunity to serve that audience is clear to us” said Michael Martin, Clear Channel Radio Senior Vice President of Programming. Kim Bryant comments, “With Univision’s KBRG switch on January 1 away from the Spanish language Adult Contemporary format, this left a very large, important and loyal audience un-served.” La Romantica will target Hispanic Adults 25-54 living in the nine county area of the San Francisco/San Jose market”. Both La Preciosa’s successful format and La Romantica were created by Alex “El Genio” Lucas, Program Director, in association with Monica Novoa, Kim Bryant and Alfredo Alonso.
