Latino Móvil to provide news from countries of origin.
December 28, 2007
Latino Móvil, a provider of news information, sports, and entertainment directly from Latin American countries to U.S. cell phone users via short message service (SMS) technology, launched its services nationwide January 23, 2008 under the slogan “Your country, your news. Directly to your cell phone.” The service is a joint venture between Latino Móvil, a US-based company that provides tech support to cell phone companies, and Comunicad, a multicultural marketing company, that provides news information from well-respected newspapers La Prensa in Honduras, La Prensa in Nicaragua, La Prensa Gráfica in El Salvador, and Prensa Libre in Guatemala as well as news from Mexico to cell phone users across the country.
Latino Móvil is currently available through the AT&T/Cingular, Sprint Nextel, Verizon, Alltel, and Dobson carrier networks and is in time expected to include news from more Latin American countries. Latino Móvil will also boast another feature, Mobile Machine, which will allow users to download video, photo and audio content from their home countries to their cell phones via Bluetooth at a minimal price.
“The possibilities with this service are endless, and we are working hard to be able to provide this top-notch service to all Latino communities in the US by forming alliances with strong media partners in more Latin American countries,” said Jose Rodriguez-Pagan, Chief Operating Officer, Comunicad and co-founder of Latino Móvil.
“Latino Móvil’s pilot without any advertising showed high numbers of subscribers each month leading up to the launch. These figures are indicative of the gap Latino Móvil fills in providing customers with the news they want to receive from their respective countries in an easy, convenient, and timely fashion,” said Brian Alperstein, co-founder of Latino Móvil.
