A Look at the Younger Online Population.

America Online and Digital Marketing Services recently surveyed kids between the ages of seven and 12 in the US to find that 46% go online four times during the week.

Furthermore, the survey determined that 20% go online each day. As for the major US markets where most kids are using the Net most, AOL found that the Tampa/St. Petersburg area has 47% of kids going online between five and seven days per week. Philadelphia follows with 45.5% of kids and New York claims third place with 44.6% online five or more days a week.

A growing number of children are going online, according to Grunwald Associates, especially younger children. Grunwald estimates that the number of kids between the ages of two and five with Net access in the US grew from a mere 6% in 2000 to 35% by 2002. In fact, in 2000 just 27% of kids ages six through eight had access to the Internet, but by 2002, a whopping 60% of them had access.

Wondering what kids are doing online? According to the AOL report, 87% are playing games online and 63% are listening to music online.
