Losada To Host Telemundo’s & NBC Budweiser Boxing Series.

Telemundo’s sports anchor, Jessi Losada, will make broadcast history by hosting live coverage in both Spanish and English as part of the Budweiser Boxing Series on Telemundo and NBC. Losada will be the first sports commentator to provide live sports coverage in English and Spanish as he hosts and provides analysis on Telemundo and hosts NBC’s coverage of the Budweiser Boxing Series. The announcement was made by Ken Schanzer, President, NBC Sports, and Jorge Hidalgo, Senior Vice President, Telemundo Sports.

“This is definitely a historic crossover for both Telemundo and for U.S. Spanish-language television,” said Hidalgo. “Jessi is the first sporstcaster to move from Spanish to English-language TV in the same day. He will literally take viewers off the air in Spanish on Telemundo and bring them on the air minutes later in English on NBC. We at Telemundo, are pleased not only for this announcement but also for being able to produce live coverage of the boxing events with our parent company, NBC.”

The Budweiser Boxing Series returns boxing to network television this May as part of an innovative joint venture between NBC Sports, Telemundo and boxing promotional group Main Events. On three consecutive Saturday afternoons – May 3, 10 and 17 – NBC Sports and Telemundo will provide live coverage from the same Main Events-promoted boxing event. NBC-owned Telemundo will air Boxeo Budweiser from 2:30-3:30 p.m. ET in Spanish. NBC Sports, which has not televised professional boxing since 1992, will broadcast its live Budweiser Boxing Series fights immediately following Telemundo from 3:30-5 p.m. ET.

Losada is host of Telemundo’s sports programs Los Triunfadores, Titulares Telemundo, La NBA en Telemundo, NBA Max, and Boxeo Telemundo. Although it may not look like it, Losada has almost 30 years of experience as reporter. Losada has received numerous Emmy Awards, including one for his remarkable story on the legend, Rafael Palmeiro in 1992 and for the Super Bowl’s four preliminary transmission programs. He also received an Emmy for his news coverage from Milan, Rome and other cities in Italy during the 1990 World Cup.

Telemundo’s Andres Cantor, whose famous ‘GOOOAL’ call helped to bring the sport of soccer to national consciousness, called soccer during NBC’s coverage of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. At the time, Cantor was the first Hispanic sports commentator to crossover and call games in English.
