Louis Sito – VP Hispanic Media @ Tribune Publishing.
January 5, 2003
Tribune Publishing announced that Louis Sito, president, publisher and chief executive officer of Hoy, one of the nation’s largest Spanish-language daily newspapers, has been named to the newly created position of vice president/Hispanic media.
In his new role, Sito will be responsible for the strategic direction of Tribune Publishing’s initiatives in Hispanic media and for coordinating group activities that include Tribune’s four Spanish-language newspapers.
“Louie is ideally suited to capitalize on the opportunity in this market,” said Jack Fuller, Tribune Publishing president. “Tribune’s existing strong position in the major Hispanic markets across the country provides us with great positioning. Louie is a proven leader who will bring the same talent, vision and passion to the job that he has shown in helping to make Hoy the fastest growing Spanish-language newspaper in the country.”
Since its launch in 1998, Sito has served as the publisher of Hoy newspaper in the New York metropolitan area. “The success of Hoy has proven that there is a great appetite for news in the Hispanic community,” said Sito. “I am excited about the challenge ahead and confident that Tribune’s solid reputation for quality journalism will enable us to build on the momentum started by Hoy.”
Sito will also continue in his present capacity at Hoy, and as president and chief executive officer of DSA Community Publishing, the alternative distribution and community publishing subsidiary of Newsday. He will continue reporting to Raymond A. Jansen, Newsday’s publisher and senior vice president of Tribune Publishing.
“Hoy opened a new advertising vehicle for those looking to reach New York’s rapidly growing Hispanic community,” said Jansen. “Louie recognized that this community had long been underserved by traditional print media, and saw the opportunity to reach thousands of new readers.”
In addition to his responsibilities for Hoy and DSA Community Publishing, since January 1999 Sito has served as the senior vice president/sales responsible for circulation, distribution and advertising sales at Newsday. He joined Newsday in 1992 as general manager of DSA. From 1994 to 1999, he served as Newsday vice president/circulation and distribution. Sito began his career with the Chicago Sun-Times advancing through the ranks to become that paper’s executive vice president/general manager.
Born in 1944, in Havana, Cuba, Sito studied business and economics at Roosevelt University in Chicago.
