Love Is A Perilous Road @ Univision.

The road to happiness can be paved with many difficulties, and no one knows it better than Perla, the heroine of Univision Network’s new prime-time novela, Las Vías del Amor (The Roads of Love). Young and talented Aracely Arámbula (who shot to international fame with the blockbuster novela “Soñadoras”) and a cast of distinguished actors star in this first-rate romantic thriller created and produced by Televisa’s Emilio Larrosa. Las Vías del Amor premieres on Univision next Monday, September 23, at 8:00 p.m./ 7:00 Central. It will air Monday-Friday, 8-9 p.m./ 7-8 p.m. Central.

Perla (Aracely Arámbula) is a beautiful country girl who lives with her parents and half brother. To help out at home, she works as a waitress in a restaurant owned by the wealthy Don Jerónimo (Mario Casillas), an old man who is madly in love with her. Desperate to have her to himself, Don Jerónimo orders his bodyguard to murder Perla’s fiancé. The bodyguard then threatens to kill Perla’s father, Fidel (José Carlos Ruiz), if she doesn’t marry Don Jerónimo. Trapped and terrified, Perla accepts.

The wedding takes place, and at the banquet, Don Jerónimo is murdered by an unknown hand. His son, Enrique (Abraham Ramos), blames Perla’s father. Although he is innocent, Fidel is forced to flee to Mexico City. After some time without hearing from her father, the anguished Perla goes to the capital to search for him, not knowing that Don Jerónimo’s brother, the evil Sebastián (Enrique Rocha) is on her trail.

In the city, she accidentally meets the love of her life: Gabriel (Jorge Salinas). Since childhood, he has been carrying the heavy weight of a guilty conscience, due to the fact that his baby brother disappeared while under his care. All his life he has been trying to find his brother—and now, in an elevator, out of the blue, a beautiful young stranger tells him that she can help him. It is Perla, who has always had strong premonitions, and the moment she sets eyes on Gabriel she “sees” his situation and senses that his long lost brother is very close.

Meanwhile, Perla finds her father, who has gone through many hardships. During his time in the capital, he has established a very close relationship with a wonderful woman named Lety (Daniela Romo), who helped him in his time of need. She becomes Perla’s dearest friend—and the wicked Sebastian’s obsession, as he will do anything in his power to have her.

Perla gets a job in the subway system, and it is there that she runs into Gabriel once again. A friendship blooms, which gradually turns into profound love. But Gabriel is engaged to Sandra (Martha Julia), and to add to the complication, his best friend, Adolfo (Gabriel Soto) also falls in love with Perla, which creates a difficult situation for Gabriel.

How will Perla and Gabriel overcome the obstacles that stand in their way? Where is Gabriel’s brother? Who murdered Don Jerónimo? To what lengths will Sebastian go to seduce Lety?

These and other questions take Perla into a perilous labyrinth from which she will only be able to escape if she follows the roads of love.

Las Vías del Amor premieres on Monday, September 23, 2002 at 8:00 p.m./ 7:00 Central.
