Advertising executive Maida E. Chicon has been named marketing communications director of Verizon’s multicultural marketing organization.
Chicon comes to Verizon from Fova Inc., one of the country’s top ten Hispanic advertising agencies. At Fova, Chicon was managing partner and director of client services, and she was instrumental in winning a number of new accounts for the agency.
“Maida is a seasoned professional who has a thorough knowledge of markets and cultures,” said Janet Keeler, Verizon senior vice president for Brand Management and Marketing Services. “Her extensive marketing and advertising background will enable us to further establish the Verizon brand with customers in all of our markets.”
Chicon will be responsible for all Verizon advertising to Hispanic, African-American and Asian customers. She will manage advertising and marketing activities at several of Verizon’s agencies, including La Agencia de Orci & Asociados and Burrell Communications. She will report to Philippa Muir, vice president of marketing communications for the consumer market.
Chicon began her career at Ogilvy & Mather, New York, where she worked on the American Express and General Foods accounts. From there, she held a variety of product-management positions at Colgate-Palmolive, and later managed the New York office of Bermudez & Associates. She was instrumental in the start-up of a Hispanic agency, JMCT Publicidad, the Hispanic advertising venture of Jordan, McGrath, Case & Taylor. She subsequently worked at Fova Inc. (currently WING Latino Group) as senior group manager, vice president, senior vice president and managing partner.
