Martínez-Guzmán named SVP& Executive News Director at Univision

Univision News announced that María Martínez-Guzmán has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Executive News Director, effective immediately. Prior to this appointment, she was Vice President, News Gathering for Univision News.

In her new expanded role, Martínez-Guzmán will head programming efforts for all daily Univision Network news properties including the flagship newscast “Noticiero Univision” in its three editions (evening, late night, and weekend), the midday newscast “Noticiero Univision Edición Digital,” the newsmagazine “Primer Impacto,” the morning show “Despierta América,” and the entertainment show “El Gordo y La Flaca,” as well as the Sunday morning political show “Al Punto.” Executive producers for each of these news programs will now report directly to Martínez-Guzmán, while she will report to Daniel Coronell, president of Univision News.

Martínez-Guzmán joined the Univision family in 2002 after spending five years as News Director for the McAllen, Texas local affiliate station Univision KNVO – Channel 48. During her tenure at Univision News’ headquarters in Miami, she has successfully held several positions, among them Executive Producer for the entire news division. In 2016 she was named Vice President of News Gathering, a key leadership role in which she took on the responsibility of managing nearly 200 newsroom employees, overseeing annual operating budgets, leading Univision News’ editorial line, and supervising production for all major Univision news coverage, among other important duties.
 
A distinguished broadcast journalism professional, Martínez-Guzmán has received several prestigious accolades throughout her career, including three Emmy Awards for executive production (2017, 2015, 2013), a Peabody Award (2012), and an IRE Award (2012). She was also selected as Univision’s “Best News Employee of the Year” in 2017.
