Martinez Joins el Diario-La Prensa.

el diario / LA PRENSA announced the appointment of Kelvin Martinez to Local Accounts Executive. Most recently, Martinez held the position of Sales Executive at Hoy, Newsday’s Spanish market product, where he was instrumental in the creation of the sales and marketing department.

“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Kelvin Martinez to el diario,” said Jorge Ayala, General Sales Director. “We have worked together in the past when we built the sales department at Hoy, and I know we are getting one of the most talented and aggressive sales person in the industry. Kelvin is a very respected account executive and a great asset to our paper. He just started with us and is already making strides in the sales department, as expected.”

A native Brooklyn/ New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent, Martinez started his sales career as a paperboy with El Vocero in Guayama, Puerto Rico during his junior high school years, and later sold Encyclopedias door to door in San Juan. Eventually he made it back to NYC to work as an official court interpreter in the New York State Unified Court System. “My bilingual skills,” said Martinez, “became so sharp that I could practically tell the defendant what the judge was about to say before he said it, in the defendant’s own language, Spanish.” Mr. Martinez asserts that he received the best communication training possible from his experience in the courts. “I put into practice the proficiency of delivering and realizing the needs of people, giving them what they want, when they want it. All expertise I have acquired through my previous experiences have made me the capable person needed to fulfill the grand task of contributing to the continued success of this paper,” Martinez added.
