Maya Entertainment green lights ‘HOLLYWOOD PLAYERS’.

Maya Entertainment announced that it will develop, produce, and distribute the slacker comedy feature HOLLYWOOD PLAYERS, written by Joaquin Perea who is also slated to direct the film.

Robert A. Parada of Streetwise Entertainment and Sandra Avila, development executive at Maya Entertainment, will oversee production while Maya Entertainment Founder and Chairman, Moctesuma Esparza (“Selena,” “The Milagro Beanfield War”) will executive produce.

“Joaquin is an incredibly talented writer/director and we couldn’t be more pleased to have an opportunity to collaborate with him on Maya Entertainment’s first in-house production,” said Avila.

“Joaquin has written a movie that encompasses today’s Latino youth and culture.  Maya Entertainment understands that demographic and we are proud to be associated with such a distinguished company,” added Parada.

Set in East Los Angeles, HOLLYWOOD PLAYERS follows two young brothers who inadvertently videotape a suspicious transaction that accidentally gets released on the web and the hilarious chaos that ensues when the whole neighborhood tries to hunt them down to get the alleged goods.

Casting is currently underway for the film’s two leads with production expected to begin in February ’09 and a targeted release date in the fourth quarter.
