Fania Records releases ‘Our Christmas Thang’.

Fania Records announced the release of five Christmas recordings from the 1970s golden age of salsa that blend traditional Island rhythms with urban New York beats. Starting with Willie Colon and Hector LaVoe’s now classic, Grammy nominated and still hot selling “Asalto Navideno” to the bomba down boogie of Ismael Rivera’s “Feliz Navidad” there’s something for everyone from dancers to lovers to children to brothers. From vocalist Cheo Feliciano’s Fania All-Star studded line up to a duel between the elder Daniel Santos and a young Hector LaVoe, these recordings make the holidays hot.

The traveling version of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History’s “¡Azúcar! The Life and Music of Celia Cruz,” exhibition debuted at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles on Aug.17 and is scheduled to continue to travel through 2008.

Ricky to be honored @ 2006 Latin Grammys.

Ricky Martin will be honored as the 2006 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, it was announced by The Latin Recording Academy®. Martin, chosen for his accomplishments as a world renowned entertainer, consummate performer and passionate humanitarian, will receive the honor at a special star-studded tribute dinner and concert held Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006, at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers in New York. A portion of the proceeds from the evening’s tribute dinner will benefit Ricky Martin’s charitable efforts.

Fania Records releases the ‘Boogie Down Boogalu Era of Latin N.Y. Music’.

Fania Records announced the release of five rare recordings from the 1960s – 70s “boogalu” era that feature the funky back beat of Joe Bataan and the East Side Kids; the raw energy of George Guzman; the jam sessions of Joey Pastrana; the romance of Ralfi Pagan and the “salsa” of Panamanian crooner, Azuquita (Sugar) and his “Orquesta Melao.”
