Digital distribution for ESPN Deportes in New York and New Jersey.

ESPN and Time Warner Cable announced the addition of 24-hour Spanish-language network ESPN Deportes to Time Warner Cable’s digital basic channel line-up in New York and New Jersey as of October 15th. The channel will be available as a Free Preview starting September 15th. ESPN Deportes is now available to approximately 5 million homes, 3.7 million of which are U.S. Hispanic households.

More cellphone-only than landline-only households.

The U.S. has passed a milestone in telecommunications history–the percentage of Americans in cellphone-only households now exceeds the percentage of people living in landline-only households, according to Mediamark Research Inc. This is one of the key findings in The Birth of a Cellular Nation, a newly released MRI white paper.

Telemundo 52 1st Spanish-language station to deliver HD content.

Telemundo 52 announced that as of September 15th KVEA will be the first Spanish-language station in the country to transmit its award-winning newscasts in High Definition. From that day forward, viewers will be able to watch En Contexto at 11PM, Noticiero 52 at 6PM, Buenos Días at 5AM, as well as Al Mediodía at 11:30AM in HD. This marks a milestone for the station, something that its competitors have yet to offer.

V-me first 6 months shows a fast start as a Digital Spanish Network.

At a six month anniversary celebration in New York, V-me chairman and founder, Mario Baeza announced that “in just six months since its launch, V-me has grown to be the largest and fastest growing Spanish digital channel in the U.S. with broadcast and digital carriage reaching more than one third of all U.S. Hispanic TV households.”
