The study presents the results of the first nationwide performance study of residential wireline broadband service in the United States. The study examined service offerings from 13 of the largest wireline broadband providers using automated, direct measurements of broadband performance delivered to the homes of thousands of volunteers during March 2011. PRBI opens bridge interconnection between San Juan and Florida.

To provide quick access to the Internet for the whole Island Critical Hub Networks officially
launched the project Puerto Rico Bridge Initiative (PRBI). Several Internet providers will participate to guarantee service, efficiency and economy to all broadband users.

Fewer Consumers switch service providers despite decreasing satisfaction.

The anticipated premiere of Univision Studios’ first dramatic program “Eva Luna” delivered audience figures for the network, reaching 5.2 million Total Viewers 2+ who tuned in to all or part of the novela’s premiere episode on one of television’s highly competitive nights.

Broadband 2010: A Big Slowdown.

The lack of growth in broadband adoption at the national level was mirrored across a range of demographic groups, with African Americans being a major exception. Broadband adoption by African Americans now stands at 56%, up from 46% at a similar point in 2009. That works out to a 22% year-over-year growth rate, well above the national average and by far the highest growth rate of any major demographic group. Puerto Rico’s changing Telecommunications Landscape.

During the past five years Puerto Rico has witnessed a dramatic change in the means by which members of Puerto Rico’s 1.4 million households communicate. Once the dominant means, landline telecommunications, including voice services provided by cable TV, have given way to the wireless cellular communications. With 71% of Puerto Rico homes having one or more wireless phone users, the utility value of a landline telephone has diminished.

AT&T completes acquisition of Centennial Communications.

AT&T announced that it has completed its acquisition of Centennial Communications Corp. The acquisition enhances AT&T’s network coverage across the Midwest and Southeast United States and in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
