Telemundo 52 1st Spanish-language station to deliver HD content.

Telemundo 52 announced that as of September 15th KVEA will be the first Spanish-language station in the country to transmit its award-winning newscasts in High Definition. From that day forward, viewers will be able to watch En Contexto at 11PM, Noticiero 52 at 6PM, Buenos Días at 5AM, as well as Al Mediodía at 11:30AM in HD. This marks a milestone for the station, something that its competitors have yet to offer.

V-me first 6 months shows a fast start as a Digital Spanish Network.

At a six month anniversary celebration in New York, V-me chairman and founder, Mario Baeza announced that “in just six months since its launch, V-me has grown to be the largest and fastest growing Spanish digital channel in the U.S. with broadcast and digital carriage reaching more than one third of all U.S. Hispanic TV households.”

CaribeVision Network launch in Puerto Rico, Miami, New York.

CaribeVision Television Group, a new television network led by media executive Carlos Barba, is set to launch in three of the top Hispanic markets next September 11th , in Miami and New York, and on the 20th in Puerto Rico. Following the purchase of local television stations in Puerto Rico, Miami, and New York, CaribeVision will be available to viewers in the Miami and New York DMA’s, as well as throughout the island of Puerto Rico, offering a localized network option for Spanish-language television viewers.

SBS-MEGA TV signs contract with DirecTV.

Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) announced that it has signed an exclusive contract with DIRECTV, the nation’s leading satellite television service provider. Beginning Oct. 17, MEGA TV will be available nationwide on the DIRECTV Más platform on channel 405.

Lawenda joins Univision Communications as President of Advertising Sales.

Univision Communications Inc. announced that advertising sales veteran David Lawenda has joined Univision in the new position of President of Advertising Sales. Lawenda will oversee advertising sales for all of Univision’s media assets, including the Univision, TeleFutura and Galavision Television Networks; the Univision and TeleFutura Television Groups; Univision Radio; and Univision Online. A top priority for Lawenda will be to help brands connect with Hispanic consumers by developing customized integrated marketing programs that harness the full power of Univision’s portfolio.
