Fox Sports en Español continues to build on what promises to be its strongest and most-watched Copa Toyota Libertadores season since the network acquired the property in 2002. According to Nielsen Media Research, the June 14 Copa Toyota Libertadores quarterfinal match featuring Las Chivas de Guadalajara and Boca Juniors of Argentina not only scored the network’s its highest ratings of all time, but it’s now the highest-rated and most-watched sports program in all of Spanish-language cable this year.

NAHJ Discouraged By Network News Coverage Of Latinos In 2004.

The National Association of Hispanic Journalists is once again discouraged by the lack of coverage of Latinos on the network evening newscasts of ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC. These networks are among the major sources of television news in the country.

Telemundo Reorganizes Studio Operations.

Telemundo announced a strategic reorganization of its Telemundo Studios operations. Don Browne, President of Telemundo, announced that the network has forged exclusive development and production relationships with industry executives Marcos Santana and Patricio Wills, who will now report directly to him. Derek Bond, Executive Vice President Telemundo Studios, will continue to oversee the Studios production operations.

Hispanics & African Americans Avid Local Late News Viewers.

Hispanic and African-American consumers avidly watch the late local news on TV, according to a recent analysis by Scarborough Research. Hispanic consumers are 26 percent more likely than all consumers nationally to cite late local news as a program they “typically watch.”

Hispanic TV Stations Continue To Grow In Numbers & In Shares.

As the U.S. Hispanic population passes 40 million, according to a recent Census Bureau report, this demographic group continues to have a tremendous impact on how local television stations are operating and expanding both within current and new markets. According to BIA Financial Network, a leading financial and strategic advisory firm serving the media and communications industries, local television stations affiliated with Hispanic networks such as Univision, TeleFutura, Telmundo and TV Azteca has increased by 56 percent over the past five years. These Hispanic stations are experiencing significant increases in both local audience share and resulting advertising revenues, and all at levels that are outpacing the growth of entire local television market by 2 to 4 percent.
