Mega Communications digitally broadcasting ‘Mega Clasica’ 820.

Mega Communications has announced that WMGG 820 – its 50,000-watt station in Tampa, Florida – is now broadcasting in HD Radio®. WMGG is the first Hispanic radio station in Central Florida to upgrade its broadcast facilities to the HD Radio® Technology.

“We have always prided ourselves on providing our advertisers and our listeners with the best facilities and the best capabilities in order to serve them. Moving up to Digital Radio is just the next logical step” notes Adam Lindemann, owner and President of Mega Communications. “WMGG ‘Mega Clásica’ will now have the clarity and sound of an FM radio station,” added Rafael Grullon, VP/Operations for Mega. WMGG ‘Mega Clásica’ programs an Adult Spanish Hits format to a Tampa market which is approximately 17% Hispanic today.

Mega plans an aggressive marketing campaign. They have purchased dozens of HD Radios and plan on giving them away to businesses and listeners so that the audience can hear for themselves what a tremendous difference Digital Radio makes.

HD Radio technology is a method of transmitting audio and data. It gives an AM station the clarity of FM. An HD radio receiver can offer listeners the song title, artist and even breaking news and traffic alerts right on the display screen. To accommodate a staggered transition by consumers, HD Radio allows co-existence of digital and analog signals side by side on the dial. Today’s radio will pick up the analog broadcast while HD Radio receivers will pick up both the analog and digital signals. For consumers, the transition is seamless.
