Mega TV signs international Latin icon Chayanne for original production ‘Gabriel’.

Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (SBS) announced the upcoming television premiere of “Gabriel”, the first serialized scripted TV drama produced by Megafilms, the Company’s recently inaugurated film division. The series, which airs in September, will feature Latino superstar Chayanne in the title role. DirecTV Más has also signed on as a co-producer of this ground-breaking project.

This marks the first time Mega TV has ventured into the realm of original scripted drama, having generated unprecedented ratings with entertainment-based reality programming since its launch two years ago.

“We have gathered the finest director, writers and crew to work on this top-notch dramatic series which we are certain will set a new precedent in Spanish-language TV production”, stated Raul Alarcon, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SBS.

PLOT/CAST

“Gabriel”, the first high-definition miniseries ever produced for Spanish-language audiences, is a poignant love story of reincarnation, revenge and redemption, set against today’s neo-Gothic underworld of vampirism and the occult.

Chayanne portrays the title role of Gabriel, a modern day vampire, a tortured being whose only hope of salvation lies in reuniting with his reincarnated soulmate, Eva (played by Mexican starlet Angelica Celaya), who was herself murdered over 300 years ago by the bloodthirsty conquistador-turned-night stalker, Pizarro (portrayed by renowned acting and recording star Jose Luis Rodriguez). Doomed to roam in eternal darkness after being cursed by an Inca priestess as revenge for the destruction of her village, Pizarro threatens to once again rob Gabriel of his long-lost love.

PRODUCTION/LOCATION

Shot on location in Miami, Puerto Rico, Rome and Venice and filmed in high definition featuring state-of-the-art special effects, the story follows Gabriel through a series of plot twists as he once again attempts to save Eva from the vengeful Pizarro and free himself from eternal damnation.
