Mexico 22 rebrands itself as Canal 22 Internacional.
December 28, 2009
Spanish-language cable network Mexico 22 announced a new name–Canal 22 Internacional–to go with its improved programming and launched a campaign in different platforms meant to bring the channel closer to its audiences, joining the trend of a more interactive TV.
While striving to improve the quality of its programs, providing a carefully chosen selection of Mexican and Latin American documentaries, shows and films, as well as live broadcasts of some major festivals such as the Guelaguetza; Canal 22 Internacional will also feature an extensive coverage of Mexico’s bicentennial specials and celebrations, while keeping its prime-quality news programs and being the only channel in the US to show the productions of Canal 22- the most important public TV station in Mexico.
Geared towards the growing market of higher-income Latino population in the US, Canal 22 Internacional also renewed its screen image and its logo. As part of this re-definition of its concept, the channel launched a campaign to increase the participation of its viewers by creating a new bilingual website (www.canal22internacional.org.mx) catering to residents as well as to US born Latino and Mexican communities. Canal 22 Internacional has also opened up a toll-free hotline 1 (877) 608-0118 available to its U.S. audiences in order to have a more personal relationship with its audience and to gather information about their preferences.
“We have been developing a new profile for Canal 22 Internacional for some time,” said Luz María Sánchez-Cardona, Director of Canal 22 Internacional, “and we have also used a large variety of tools to increase our direct interaction with viewers and maximize the user’s experience.”
Canal 22 Internacional’s new bilingual website is designed to provide a completely user-friendly, functional and entertaining experience. Key color-coding clearly identifies up-to-the-minute schedules for viewers, programming synopses and recommendations. The website also offers an extensive community and blog section, as well as links to the channel’s profiles in several social networking sites such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Furthering our engagement with a more interactive TV, we have also included a section called Mi México 22 which allows users to have a personalized experience tailored to their tastes, as well as allowing them access to news feeds from Noticias 22- Agencia de Información Cultural, a news agency exclusively devoted to cultural information.
“Rather than being viewed as a simple public service channel, Canal 22 Internacional strives to become a production and distribution center on both television, the Internet and on all other platforms now opened up by the digital world,” added Dr. Jorge Volpi, General Director of Canal 22. “Our new strategies open these windows and allow us to communicate directly with our viewers to help serve their needs and deliver them the highest-quality channel possible.”
